Night time tips to improve oral hygiene

The maintenance of oral hygiene is a very basic thing which should be practised by all. Yet, there are a large number of people who find it very difficult to maintain the basic hygiene of one’s oral cavity. Some people cite problems like busy lifestyle for not being able to take care of oral hygiene on a regular basis. However, it is more about an acquired habit than the availability of time. This is because the procedures to maintain basic oral hygiene are extremely simple and need not require the availability of free time at all. It is generally taught to a person since the childhood that one should always brush and floss one’s teeth after any meal. However very few people follow these morals diligently causing problems to oneself in the long run. As a result, they start facing different types of problems with their teeth in their adulthood. In this article, we would discuss how you would maintain your oral hygiene by devoting just a few minutes to this cause before you go to sleep.

To maintain dental hygiene, the first thing you should do is to stop all the bad habits which might hamper the health of your oral cavity. These habits include eating too much sugar laced fast food. Sugar, if consumed in large quantity causes the decay of the tooth enamel. And in the packaged fast food and also the bottled soft drinks, the amount of sugar is dangerously high. It is always advisable to avoid these kinds of food. Secondly, the use of tobacco should be entirely avoided. Smoking and also the chewing of other tobacco products brings chemical changes in the mouth cavity which result in a pungent smell emanating from several spots from within the mouth. One should quit on the habit of smoking at once because even elaborate dental treatment finds it difficult to restore the natural smell of the mouth.

Now, let us come to the regular aspect of dental hygiene maintenance. You deserve atleast fifteen minutes of your own time before you go to sleep, just to take care of your dental health. In these fifteen minutes, clean up your oral cavity in such a way that no food particle remain attached anywhere in the mouth. Always use quality toothbrushes as well as flosses. In case of toothpastes, foam based toothpastes should be preferred over gel based ones. Choosing sugar free tooth pastes would also help mitigate plaque build-up while you sleep. One thing most people ignore is the cleaning of the tongue. You should give equal importance to the cleaning of the tongue as you give it to the cleaning of the teeth. You would find good quality tongue cleaners in the market which remove all the sticky food particles from the tongue. Once you clean up your mouth during bedtime, do not eat or drink anything except water. For more such tips you can read DENTZZ REVIEWS where people share their tips on maintaining healthy teeth.
